Residents across North Somerset are being warned to be on their guard against cold callers claiming to be able to reduce their council tax bills.

Representatives from a company, claiming to be from the council, have been cold calling residents across the district saying they can reduce the yearly bills for services provided by the authority.

North Somerset Council executive member for finance, Councillor Tony Lake, said: “We have been in contact with the firm in question and for them to say they are calling from North Somerset Council is totally untrue and I would advise residents to be on their guard.

“Anyone with concerns that their property may be in an incorrect council tax band can ask for the banding to be reviewed by the Government’s Valuation Office Agency – there is no charge for this.
