Residents who have been woken up at night by staff at the nearby hospital wanting cars moved are demanding a permit system to curb the nuisance of commuters.

Those living near Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton on Belmont Road, Galmington Road, Galmington Close and Musgrove Road say police have to be called to move cars, and at times emergency vehicles cannot get through.

Local Liberal Democrat councillor Justine Baker, who with fellow Liberal Democrat councillor Alan Paul is supporting the residents said: “Somerset County Council has refused to allow highways officers to talk to residents and draw up plans for parking restrictions.

"Council policy favours commuters over residents, who are always telling me how their lives are being made a misery.”
