Reserves' end season with a six-goal thriller
Glastonbury Town Reserves 3
Meadow Rangers 3
In the final game of the Mid Somerset League season, fourth-placed Glastonbury Town Reserves drew with already promoted Meadow Rangers in a thrilling end-of-season Division One encounter.
Meadow looked the better side in the early stages and took the lead when Darren Gibbs scored with a cross shot from an acute angle. The visitors went 2-0 up midway through the half when a shot came back off an upright and Steve Hill scored his 43rd goal of the campaign.
Glastonbury eventually got themselves competitive and reduced the arrears on 36 minutes when Mike Constanza beat the offside trap to score from 12 yards. The goal gave Glastonbury a lift and they drew level minutes later with a Dempster King strike.
The home team appeared to become a little complacent leading up to the interval and it was Gibbs who again restored the visitors' lead on the stroke of half-time with another close-range effort.
Glastonbury came out stronger at the start of the second half and again got themselves back on level terms on the hour with another break through the heart of the Meadow Rangers defence, Constanza finding the net having initially made a yard of space to set up the opportunity.
Constanza went close to completing his hat-trick on 84 minutes, but he was foiled by the legs of the keeper. A draw in the end was a fair reflection of the game.
Glastonbury Town FC weekly draw: week one (£10) – Alan Boulton, Lil Whitcombe, Simon Pain, Janet Button, Den Bryant.
