PAUL Down has told his Wincanton Town players that there is no reason they cannot overcome bogey side Parley Sports if they reproduce their stunning performance at Hamworthy Rec.

The Somerset club emphasised their Magna Dorset Premier League promotion credentials by thumping former champions Rec 4-0 in their own back yard. However, they now travel to Parley aiming to avenge defeats in recent years.

Down, whose side have lost just once in the league this campaign, said: "They have been our bogey side for the last few seasons so we have a point to prove down there. It is by no means an easy game, we are aware of that and we don't want to slip up after a great result. But if we continue our form there is no reason why we cannot get another excellent result."

A Matt Chant double gave Wincanton a two-goal cushion at the break at Hamworthy before Luke Stephens struck and a 30-yard Danny Golden free kicked capped victory in emphatic fashion to move eight points behind table-toppers Holt United with four games in hand.

"It was an important victory for us as they were third and we were fourth," said Down. "It was a good win and sends out a signal that we are in good form. A couple of players that I have brought in made a big difference to the team and I couldn't be happier.

"All of the players are drawing a lot of confidence and were bouncing afterwards. It was the best performance of the season by some distance and it could have been 6-0 or 7-0 against one of the top sides in the league.

"We didn't give them a sniff of a chance and defended excellently to keep out Hamworthy. Not many teams do that and I couldn't ask for any more from a great all-round team performance."
