Emergency repairs are being carried out to a road in Portishead which has been badly damaged by the heavy rain.

The road surface at Beach Hill was badly damaged after a torrent of water washed down from West Hill.

Flooding was caused after a pipe became blocked, causing water to flood into the street and lift the drain covers.

The road has now been closed while the repairs, costing £25,000 are carried out.

The closure has caused some difficulties for residents and allotment holders who access the site from Beach Hill.

North Somerset Council spokesman Nick Yates said: “The road surface was damaged due to a blocked pipe.

“We have carried out a drainage survey, replaced the pipe, repaired the road and brought forward some resurfacing work which we were due to carry out later this year, meaning we won’t have to close the road again.”
