Frome families have been assured by Somerset County Council that there will be no red tape standing in the way of street parties to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.

It comes as Secretary of State Eric Pickles wrote to all council chief executives appealing for less red tape and waiving charges for people wanting to hold street parties.

Council leader Ken Maddock said: "Somerset is a county of villages and small towns and each and every one has a unique community spirit.

"We will do everything we can to make sure the jubilee can be celebrated across Somerset and look forward to communities putting on street parties, events and thoroughly enjoying the occasion".

Anyone wishing to hold a street party should call Mendip District Council on 01749 648999.
