Reaping a rich harvest of results
There were jubilant scenes at The Kings of Wessex School on Tuesday, as Year 11 students yet again harvested a superb set of GCSE results.
"We are very proud to be celebrating another recording breaking achievement with 82 per cent of students in Year 11 achieving five or more A*-C grades in their exams – which compares very favourably with the national result of 69 per cent," said assistant head teacher Christian Hughes. In addition, the percentage of students achieving five or more A*-C grades including English and maths matched the record set last year of 70 per cent. This fantastic achievement comes hot on the heels of the school's best ever A-level results.
Mr Hughes praised the efforts of this year's Year 11 students and their teachers. He said: "This has been an outstanding year for The Kings of Wessex School. These young people have worked incredibly hard to achieve these magnificent results which reflect well on the commitment and hard work of both the students and their teachers.
"As always, the headline figures do not tell the whole story as there were many achieving far beyond this, with many entered for up to 13 different subjects at GCSE level. The pass rate for all exams sat was 99 per cent, with 25 per cent of these being awarded the top grades of A*/A. The list of students who deserve to be mentioned individually grows every year as students surpass previous achievements, and all of our students deserve our warmest congratulations."
Some of the highlights include: Jessica Benjamin (Blackford) achieved the highest number of A*s, (obtaining A*-C passes in 12 subjects), with an outstanding 11 at A* and one1 at A grade. Emily Ingle (Wedmore) also performed extremely well banking 12 GCSEs, including 10 at A* and one at A. Six students achieved the fantastic result of 13 GCSE passes at A*-C grade with Seth Cunningham (Mudgley) and Kirsty McLaren (Biddisham) impressively scooping six A*s and seven As; and six A*s; six As and 1 B grade respectively. Megan Jones (Wedmore) and Adam Green (Cheddar) also impressed – Megan gaining six A*s, four A grades, two Bs and one C and Adam attaining four A*s, eight As and a B grade. Benjamin Champion (Cheddar) and Thomas Cashmore (Edingworth) were also successful in their attainment of eight As and five Bs; and three As, six Bs and four C grades respectively.
The Kings of Wessex School would like to extend sincere and warm congratulations to all students who took their GCSE's this summer. They have brought enormous credit to themselves, their families, the school and their town or village. We look forward to welcoming the vast majority back to our successful sixth form in September and in being able to celebrate their continued and future success in their academic career.
