Checking out food hygiene ratings at pubs and hotels is just as important as checking the menu, health experts have warned.

With festive meals being planned, Taunton Deane Borough Council is reminding people that businesses that sell or serve food are rated from 0-5 on hygiene standards when food inspectors call.

The rating five is “very good” and zero indicates a serious problem. The ratings can be found online at www.food.gov.uk/ratings.
