A STORE that combines the buying power of a large chain with the benefit of local knowledge is about to open a branch in Street.

Radstock Co-operative has announced that it has finalised a deal for 3,000 square feet of retail space at the site of the Jon Thorner Shop at West End. The shop will retain a Jon Thorner butchery and chilled pre-packed food.

The move follows the recent re-opening of a Glastonbury store, taken over by the group last year.

The Street outlet will have a full re-fit and improvements to the car park and shop front.

Don Morris, chief executive for the Radstock Co-op said: "We are really pleased to be extending our presence in the local area which has been possible due to our strong financial performance last year and the success of the Glastonbury store."

The store has applied for a Lottery licence and is looking to install a cash machine. It will close for refurbishment mid September and aims to re-open its doors at the end of the month, trading from 8am to 9pm, Monday to Sunday.
