Brian May, Queen guitarist and animal welfare campaigner, has travelled to Brussels as part of his campaign against the culling of badgers.

May joined Gavin Grant, chief executive of the RSPCA, to press for a change in European regulations which would allow vaccination of cattle in the fight against bovine tuberculosis (TB).

They will meet MEPs and officials in the Environment and Agriculture directorates general of the European Commission. May, who launched his Team Badger campaign last month, wants to stop the cull which has been approved by the Government.

A licence to kill badgers has been issued in West Somerset. Cull supporters argue the move is needed to tackle TB in cattle.

But May said: “We are all focused on the battle to eradicate bovine TB. What is absolutely clear from the scientific evidence is that vaccination of cattle and badgers, along with bio-security and movement controls in the farming industry, is the only way to make meaningful progress.

"We believe this is where the Government and the NFU should be directing their attention.”

“Now you are just parroting me Mary.

Imitation is the highest form of flattery.

That's not necessary, I assure you. . I quite understand that is how badgerism affects people. I have been dealing with it for many years now.

That's why Charles Henry is so loved by all badgerists now. xxx”

“You are a wonderful example of how the mind of a badgerist works Mary, . Classic 'denial'. . You have no idea about the science, and are determined to avoid the truth.

There are THOUSANDS of scientists all around the world continually studying the massive problem of tuberculosis. . This has been an process has been going on for years now! . The XDR problem is just getting worse every year, now compounded by HIV.

The biggest threat, the XDR strains of TB, are currently resistant to the most potent classes of first, and second-line anti-TB drugs available, and there is no third line of pharmaceutical defence.

No country in the world can or WILL now ever allow M.bovis to remain endemic in any animal species.”

“You DO live in the past Charles - 1997? I hope you reach 2012 sometime soon. I know a lot more because I've read all the latest credible reports from scientists.

As for the URL; I checked it and couldn't find any study into BTB.”

“Just WHEN are you going to start learning about the problems of TB?

Back in 1997, Dr. Jerome Harms, now Senior Scientist, Pathobiological Sciences at the School of Veterinary Medicine, University of Wisconsin-Madison, wrote.

"Recently, there have been many outbreaks of M.bovis caused tuberculosis in humans especially HIV+ patients. Most have occurred in countries where M.bovis is endemic in the animal agriculture population. Multi-drug resistant strains of M.bovis are now appearing as well. The significance of this TB threat from M.bovis has not been taken as seriously as the threat from M.tuberculosis (Human TB)"

"However, the scientific and medical community must not ignore the potential of an M.bovis TB epidemic."

Again; quite prophetically, he wrote that back in 1997.

Would you also like Dr. Jerome Harms email address to get some lessons? . I'm sure he'll oblige.

“From one URL in your last post: "Camelid Herds have been infected with TB by local wildlife, by purchased stock, by agisted mating, by short and long term agistment and movements."

The other URL is a link to a newspaper report about a woman who contracted BTB from her pet alpacas.

    What exactly was your point?”

This is why there WILL be a badger cull.

“When are you to post anything remotely current on this subject? An email, six and a half years old, emoting about the incidence of BTB in children is not pertinent when the latest Defra figures dismiss this as being insignificant in the total scheme of things. I'm not happy that any child should be hurt or sick but for you to advocate that 75% of badgers should be culled because of this, is beyond belief.”

“That should be " if you don't LIKE me."

Brian May and The Badger Trust are making fools of you also. . . They've harnessed a natural desire not to destroy life that we all have.

But unfortunately UNTIL WE HAVE A COMPLETELY NEW VACCINE THERE IS NO OTHER WAY.”
