Pupils bring the Romans to life

The world of togas and gladiators was celebrated at Trinity First School, Frome, this week.

Year 3 pupils have been studying life in Roman Britain and on Tuesday were asked to chose a character from the period, dress up and talk about them during the school's assembly.

Class teacher Jackie Cooper said all sorts of different people had been represented - from slaves to Roman matrons - with one child choosing Boudicca, Queen of the Celtic tribe the Iceni.

Mrs Cooper added: "It was a lovely day. We made bread using spelt flour from a Roman recipe with herb butter.
