Public debate for Avon and Somerset Police and Crime Commissioner candidates
Candidates for the Avon and Somerset Police and Crime Commissioner Election will take part in a public debate at the Somerset County Cricket Ground in Taunton on November 6.
The event, organised by the Community Council for Somerset, aims to keep voluntary groups, representatives from statutory bodies and local authorities and the public engaged in the election process and to give them a chance to quiz the people who may set budgets and priorities for police for the next three-and-a-half years.
The charity has been working with Voscur through the Safer Future Communities Project to make sure these groups across Avon and Somerset are informed about the new Police and Crime Commissioners and able to influence the candidates on issues that matter to them and the communities they serve.
Keeley Rudd, community involvement manager at the community council, said: “The Police and Crime Commissioner will have significant influence and power to make decisions that will directly impact on local policing and community safety. This is an opportunity for people to have the chance to quiz the candidates on issues of vital importance to their local community”.
