Proposed turbine 'disaster' for the traders
THE Bath and West Showground turbine was turned down by the Mendip District Council planning committee, but what did not, and could not, come up in the meeting was the potentially disastrous effect the turbine would have on the local community businesses.
The Bath and West has the turbine's siting as OS ST 6328039797 which is just over 200 metres from the Showering Pavilion and level with the village green.
It is at most 150m from the main ring.
The show has already lost the Truckfest and PAT (Prestleigh Against Turbines) is very concerned that if other organisations stop using the showground then the local area will suffer yet another drop in trade.
New Wine, for instance, have e-mailed me to say they have not been informed that the proposed turbine was to go to planning.
Not a good way to look after your customers.
We notice that the showground turned off their small turbine for last week's dairy event just as it was turned off for the main show because of the strobing shadow flicker.
Will a major generating company allow the show to turn off a 500megawatt turbine for all 109 days that the showground is being used?
The show society has got to get its act together.
They have planning for a solar panel farm so why a turbine?
It is on the cards that the Royal Bath and West Show is soon to become a three-day show and it looks like the flower tent will be a disaster next year.
What is going on? Is someone trying to kill the show?
