Proceeds of crime paid back
Criminals are losing their lavish lifestyles as asset-stripping police investigators hit them in the pocket.
Since April, criminals jailed for a variety of drug, fraud and other offences in Avon and Somerset have been ordered to pay back more than £1.2 million by the courts.
This included more than £600,000 in compensation to be paid to victims of crime including charities, businesses, local authorities and individuals.
The money has been recovered under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002, which allows confiscation orders to be imposed on criminals, ensuring they pay the penalty for their illegal activity.
