Prince William and Kate Middleton faced ex-factor at Somerset wedding

Weddings among a close group of shared friends can lead to the occasional awkward moment when one half of a couple bumps into an old flame.

But it was revealed yesterday a Somerset wedding attended by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge was fraught with potential frosty moments over canapes – as no fewer than four of their former partners were also there.

The wedding, as reported in the Daily Press yesterday, was of Kate’s friend from Marlborough College, Alice St John Webster and Gerald Alvenel at Bishops Lydeard, near Taunton.

But also among the 300 guests were Prince William’s former girlfriends Olivia Hunt and Rose Farquhar, along with Kate’s previous boyfriends Henry Ropner and Willem Marx.

Aspiring actress Miss Farquhar, 28, dated William, 30, after he left Eton in the summer of 2000. Miss Hunt, 28, a writer, dated the Duke briefly before Kate at St Andrews.

Mr Marx, 29, a journalist, is said to be 30-year-old Kate’s first boyfriend at Marlborough and baronet’s son Mr Ropner, 30, is rumoured to have dated Kate when she and William separated in 2007.

Kate’s sister Pippa was also at the wedding and fittingly for a wedding in the West she wore a £380 pale pink dress by Somerset designer Alice Temperley.
