Preparations in Priston for third village festival
The third Priston Festival will take place between September 17 and 19 in Priston.
There will be great music in a range of village venues and on a free outdoor stage on the village green, along with food, family entertainment, morris dancing, and workshops to take part in.
There will be free activities to enjoy in the heart of the village throughout Saturday and Sunday, concerts in the village hall and ancient parish church, and fringe events in the pub.
The music on offer includes pop, rock, folk, jazz and classical.
Children can also enjoy a weekend art project and a street-dance workshop.
The festival will kick-off on Friday night in the village hall with a concert from the Jo Sercombe Trio.
Jo has performed at the last two festivals in different guises and is a firm favourite with festival audiences.
Jo will also be running a free Big Sing workshop on Sunday afternoon.
On Saturday, there will be a cafe and market with barbecue.
The village green will see some great bands on a free stage, from 11am, including Benji Bartlett, 6ftSwing, Fred Jones, Nicole Fermie, and Hélélé.
In the village hall there will be a chance to see the 40th anniversary photo exhibition of Priston's rival festival at Glastonbury – a talk by Luke Barclay (Priston author of A Loo With A View), a free street dance workshop, and an evening gig with singer-songwriter Andy Liszewski followed by the hard rock of The Dragsters.
The church will host a concert of spinet music by Philip Evry.
On Sunday, in honour of the 200th anniversary of the composer's birth, there will be a Chopin recital in the church with readings from correspondence with his lover George Sand.
This will be followed by morris dancing around the village green and a singing workshop in the village hall.
From 2.45pm the village green stage will again be the setting for free music, this time from blues slide guitar legend Kevin Brown, Cyser, and the Mendip String Band.
There will also be a singaround and shanty session in the village hall.
Schola Cantorum will perform sacred medieval music in the church at 6pm.
The festival will conclude with supper in the village hall with music from the Al Cubbin Trio.
Over the weekend a children's art project making scarecrows will take place on the village green, and the Mayan Magician will also be casting his spell on the crowd.
Tickets are only required for the church concerts, the Friday and Saturday evening events in the village hall, and the supper with jazz on Sunday.
