Popular base officer hands over power
SERVICE personnel have waved farewell to a popular stalwart of RNAS Yeovilton.
Steve Uzzell has handed over the reins of Base Warrant Officer to Warrant Officer Gary Smart.
The role is the most senior non-commissioned officer role on base and includes upholding traditions and discipline.
In a formal ceremony the Base Warrant Officer stick, a sign of authority, was passed over. Warrant Officer Uzzell now retires from his 36-year Naval career.

He spent time afloat on the fourth HMS Ark Royal working alongside Phantom, Buccaneer and Gannet aircraft and more recently the amphibious helicopter carrier HMS Ocean.
He said: "I have had the best time in the world with the Royal Navy. I will never forget all the great people I've had the pleasure to work and travel with. It's been a fantastic time".
He intends to restore a country cottage near Ilminster.
