“There is absolutely no justification for what they have done Moe, it's clear. While millionaires enjoy tax cuts and taxes go unpaid and avoided. I dread to think how much more irreparable damage they can inflict on peoples lives by 2015. No to mention the destruction to all the safeguards put in place by much wiser men decades since to ensure people weren't dying from hunger and exposure on the streets.

Mogg will lose his seat and become a celebrity in his own right, Don will move far from Bath upon his retirement and hard earned entry into the Lords. Labour will have an outright majority with Ukip in 3rd place.”

“No, VV is right to be enraged. Regardless of the rights and wrongs of tonight's vote, the coalition campaign has dredged new lows in gutter politics. They have castigated every benefit claimant as a skiver (fraud is 0.7% of the welfare budget), demonised everyone unfortunate enough to be unemployed as a scrounger (only 3% goes to the unemployed), and dismissed the entire low-paid workforce (2.7 million people) by implying they're not working hard enough.

And how d'you think the website of the ruling party in the UK justifies this policy? An quantified evidence-based report explaining how it will benefit the vulnerable? An heartfelt apology at the chronic shortage of jobs resulting from their economic incompetence? Maybe a detailed analysis explaining how the forcible reduction of benefits with respect to average earnings will encourage the economy to create some jobs for all these people to go to?

    Nope:

"Labour are voting to increase benefits more than workers wages".

That's it. That's their entire argument. One soundbite. No justification; no explanation; no evidence - just a straight pre-emptive attack against the people who may oppose them. It's not even mathematically correct, let alone morally - a 13-year-old studying calculus can tell the difference between absolutes and rates-of-change - and yet they believe us plebs are stupid enough to fall for it.

Bevin was right. Rodent communities look after themselves; Tories really are lower than vermin.”

“But I'm commenting on a political piece that tells us that one party can take a seat from another political party. If I was commenting on sofa's then I agree it wouldn't be the place. I'm instead commenting here on an article entirely relevant to political comment. Therefore, why should I not exercise my democratic right to comment on the issue?

I think it will be a long time before I don't comment politically on political articles when they appear here or elsewhere. You honestly don't have to read them. Freedom of choice and all that!”

“VV - what's too early for me is the flying t****. We don't need to be reminded how good/bad the government is/is not as we kinda live with that every day and the polls tell their tale of declining support. Whichever dance you move to just tell us why it is the best of the bunch - but maybe on another forum!”

    “Not Independent then rogerh?"

Realistically there's no likelihood of that in Bath under our electoral system.

"Oh before I forget, do get to get to The Bell by eight this Friday..."

Appreciate the invitation but I'm afraid I won't be able to make it.

“Oh, is it too early to point out what a bunch of shysters this coalition are??

I've just wasted the last three years, I'll just pop up again the week before the election and say I was concerned all the time but it was too early to say. There aint nothin' "gushy about me Sir.”

“Oh Mr L, it's fighting talk, I do not do covert sneakiness... Even for alcoholic beverages. We are on the offensive.... my favourite way of offending!

I'm absolutely furious with the Lib Dems for voting in the gutless way they did today... as they did last year and the year before that. Beveridge must be spinning in his grave.

Apart from that, mines a gin ;)”

“Cowards will get the cowards they deserve Turkey. I think many don't see the difference between the Tories and Lib Dems anymore so there's nothing to lose by doing that brave and noble thing like exercising your democratic choice and voting with your conscience... That lofty privilege that most other Constituencies manage to enjoy. Either way, a battle should shake them out of their smugness and sense of entitlement.”
