Avon and Somerset Police have appealed to anyone who was in the area at the time for help.
If you have information you should call the police on 101 or on Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
The BBC reported today that Det Ch Insp Simon Crisp, from Avon and Somerset Police, said he wanted to hear from anyone who had witnessed "quite a distinctive scene, probably smoke and flames across the road".
According to BBC news online, he said: "We need the help of members of the public, people who may have been using the A358... to commute, people who live in the area, people who may have seen a figure standing in a gateway alongside the car, anybody who saw the red Ford Focus entering the scene."
