Police probe after child hit during Wincanton New Year celebrations

Police are appealing for information after a young child was struck in the face during a disturbance outside a Wincanton pub.

The incident took place between midnight and 1am on New Year's Day outside the White Horse pub, off Market Place.

There was a disturbance during which a child, thought to be around four years old, was struck in the face whilst in the arms of its mother.

A 24-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of assault. She has been released on bail pending further enquiries.

Police are trying to locate the young victim and mother, as well as speak to other people who were out for New Year's Eve celebrations and witnessed the incident.
