Police name motorcyclist and cyclist who died in A361 Frome Bypass collision
The two men killed in a road collision on Friday afternoon on the outskirts of Frome have been named by police.
The motorcyclist has been named as Robert Chapman, 37, from Westbury.
The cyclist was named as Lyndsey Maurice Dando, 80, from Frome.
Police have said the incident took place on the A361 Frome Bypass, between Feltham Lane and the Blatchbridge roundabout, at about 2.20pm.
Both men are said to have died at the scene of the collision.
Mr Chapman was well known locally as a drummer and played with local band, Frenzy, up until 2006.
Members of the band and friends have paid tribute to him on Facebook and there is also a tribute on music blogger, Ben Scott’s website.
Frenzy front man, Steve Whitehouse, said: “To say we are shocked would be an understatement.
“We can’t believe it. Myself, my wife Dawn, Steve Eaton and Adam Seviour would like to offer our deepest sympathies to his whole family.”
The road was closed for several hours while police investigated the incident and traffic was re-directed into the town centre, causing chaos for drivers on their way home from work.
A police spokesman said an investigation into the collision was ongoing.
He said: “The road was closed for several hours while police began their investigation into the collision and motorists are thanked for their patience while this work took place.
“Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to contact Avon and Somerset Police on 101.”
East Somerset coroner, Tony Williams opened and adjourned an inquest into both deaths this morning.
