A winter wedding requires meticulous planning, not least because the weather is likely to be unpredictable which can seriously affect transport and venue arrangements.

Check with your car hire company as to whether or not they have a contingency plan in place, to ensure you get to the church on time. While they certainly look the part, classic cars won't necessarily be suitable if the roads are in bad condition especially if they're icy, so knowing that your firm will offer a replacement vehicle should you require it will give any winter bride the peace of mind she deserves.

If it has been raining heavily then there may well be a lot of mud on the roads. Turning up in a white, mud splattered car is a far cry from the grand entrance every bride dreams of so consider a classic black or dark silver car both of which look great in photos as they are very reflective.

For a winter wedding your venue will need to comfortably accommodate your full guest-list plus any entertainment you've booked. In contrast to a summer wedding, the weather will most likely refuse to cooperate on the day forcing everyone inside under one roof.

As long as there's enough room and sufficient seating available then these indoor winter weddings often enjoy a livelier atmosphere than their summer comparisons.

The seasons will also have an impact on the outfits worn on the day, with stylish, elegant gowns also needing to keep their owners warm.

For those wearing short dresses - tony tights or chic stockings will stop you from turning blue when stood outside the church while closed toe shoes can be worn with ankle stockings.

For the bride, faux fur can be draped over-uncovered shoulders adding a touch of class as well as warmth.

It's often said that your wedding day is all about you, but you'll want to make sure your guests have a great time too so keep them in mind when planning every aspect of your wedding.

If you've set a date close to Christmas you will need to let everyone know well in advance so they can mark the date in their diary before making any family plans for the holiday season.

Thereafter it's the little thoughtful touches that will make the difference to your friends and family, such as ensuring the paths leading to the church and reception have been de-iced, umbrellas are provided to those without one and ensuring there's a mat at the entrance to any buildings so mud isn't traipsed indoors.

Whatever the weather brings, as long as you've planned with your guests in mind then everyone will remember your big day for all the right reasons and you'll have the perfect start to married life.
