Thousands of revellers descended on Buckland Dinham, near Frome, last weekend to enjoy a three-day beer and cider festival, nicknamed the Buckfest, organised by the Bell Inn.

The fourth year of the festival kicked off on Friday evening with live music from local bands Savanna and Richard Critters, while Saturday night saw a '50s tribute night, with more than 1,500 people turning up to dance the night away.

Sunday was a free family day, with a pirate theme, when hundreds of people turned up dressed as pirates.

There was plenty for revellers to see and do, including stalls selling everything from plants to jewellery, and plenty of beers and ciders to taste, including Badgers Spit, Dogs Bark and Snake's Hiss.

An added attraction on Sunday's pirate day this year was a parrot wedding, organised to add that little something extra to the day.

The Bell Inn's landlord Jeremy Westcott, also known as the Rt Rev Westcott, had searched long and hard for a bride for Buddy, the five-year-old Senegal parrot.

And owner Dave Horler, from Frome, had hoped they had succeeded after stumbling across a parrot from Yeovil, via the internet. But it was not to be – the parrot's owner couldn't make it – so instead big Derek, the seven-foot pirate, married the bird instead.

Mr Westcott said he was delighted with how the weekend had turned out.

He said: "It's been a fantastic weekend, the weather has held out for us and I've had loads of people coming up to me telling me what a great time they've had.

"The parrot wedding was a little different than we'd planned, but it all worked out well in the end.

"I think Derek and Buddy will be very happy together."

It is hoped the event will raise lots of money for charities, such as Help For Heroes, the Stroke Society and Breast Cancer Research.
