Philip Springfield triumphed in the only competition held at the Isle of Wedmore Golf Club last week.

The event saw seniors restricted to using just two clubs and a putter, although most coped well with the imposed sanctions.

Springfield out-scored his handicap to finish with 19 points over the nine holes, beating Peter Tyler on countback. John Russell was third, just one point behind.

The competition acted as a precursor to the Christmas meal, which also saw the presentation of prizes for the order of merit, where points from medals and stablefords are accumulated throughout the year.

One hundred players managed at least one point but Eric Wallace was the clear winner, seeing his handicap fall during the year as he collected an impressive 41 points.

Runner-up Terry Stew finished with 36, while Chris McGowan had 32 in third.

The main club order of merit has also concluded, with a junior and senior member featuring in the top three finishers.

The winner, though, was Rob Davis, whose steady play over the year accumulated 96 points.

His nearest rival was junior Josh Barwell, who scored 83, while senior John Russell took third place with 78.
