Campaigners fighting proposals for a hunt kennels at Chewton Mendip have presented a petition to Mendip District Council.

The 263 signature petition was presented to the district council on Monday lunchtime.

Public consultation over the proposed hunt kennels, which the Mendip Farmers Hunt says are vital to preserve the tradition on the Mendip hills, has now closed. The hunt had been told it had to leave its existing site near Priddy by the end of June or pay a fine to the property owners. The plans for a kennels at Chewton Mendip will now be considered by planners are likely to go before a planning board meeting at the end of August or in early September.
