Pesticides restriction good news for Somerset beekeepers
Beekeepers in Somerset have welcomed a European decision to restrict uses of particular pesticides, which are thought to be harmful to bees.
The move by the European Commission involves advising member states to restrict the use of certain classes of pesticide.
The commission proposes that neonicotinoids should only be used on crops that are unappealing to bees.
Jackie Mosedale, chairman of Somerset Beekeepers, said: “The UK government must now review the evidence as a matter of urgency.” Somerset beekeepers had their worst season for a generation last year.
