Peasedown Athletic keep up title hunt as Timsbury gift three points to Tunley
Somerset County League Division 2 East title-chasers Peasedown Athletic overcame a slow start against Hengrove Athletic to ultimately run out emphatic 4-0 winners on Saturday.
Chris Allard had to make an excellent save to deny Dave Alexis as the visitors bossed the first 20 minutes but it was Peasedown who took the lead when Charlie Walton latched on to Tom Woodland’s miscued shot to fire home.

Man of the match Luke Litterick curled home a superb shot to double the lead before unmarked substitute Matt Seviour killed the game off by scoring from a corner with his first touch of the match.
Fellow substitute Craig Cerba’s 35-yard shot deceived Hengrove keeper Danny Smith to put the icing on the cake for Peasedown, who visit fifth-placed Cutters Friday Reserves this weekend.

Tunley Athletic continued their climb away from the lower reaches of the division with a 4-1 win at fellow strugglers Timsbury Athletic.
The rock-bottom club proved the perfect hosts as disastrous defending presented Tunley with numerous gift-wrapped scoring opportunities.
Timsbury keeper Paul Cracknell cleared straight to Ashley Blake for the visitors’ 28th-minute opener and, after Jason Curtis had headed over an open goal, Matt Doughty doubled the lead with a crisp left-footed finish against his old club.
Mark Hancock had earlier hit the post at the other end but provided the cross which Joe Parker skilfully volleyed home to get Timsbury back in the contest.
However, more loose defensive work allowed Curtis to restore the two-goal gap and the prolific centre-forward completed his hat-trick in the second half.
Both Tunley and Timsbury are at home this weekend, to Long Ashton and Broad Plain House respectively.
Welton Rovers Reserves, who found themselves on the wrong end of an 8-1 hiding at Long Ashton, will entertain Fry Club Reserves and Farrington Gurney travel to Dundry Athletic.
In Division 1, Clutton had goals from Adam Holcombe and Blue O’Connor to thank for their 2-0 home win over Keynsham Town Reserves.
Second-placed Westfield failed to cash in on another slip by leaders Yatton Athletic, who were held to a 1-1 home draw by Shepton Mallet Reserves, as they suffered a surprise 3-0 home defeat to lowly Larkhall Athletic Reserves.
On a day when their first-team achieved their highest-ever league position, Bishop Sutton Reserves slipped to second from bottom of the table with a 1-0 defeat to fellow strugglers Saltford.
