A father accused of murdering his daughter’s former partner put his head in his hands when told of the victim’s death.

Michael Frank McGinty, 55, of Peony Road, Langport, showed remorse after Paul Retallick, 35, was beaten to death on Sunday, September 16, last year, Bristol Crown Court heard on Monday.

His daughter Heidi, 26, told police her father said sorry and cuddled her after and attack which resulted in Mr Retallick’s death, Peter Coombe, prosecuting, told the jury.

Mr Coombe told the court how Michael McGinty reacted to the news of Mr Retallick’s death when paramedics confirmed it around 9.40pm.

He said: “At which stage Michael McGinty put his head in his hands. Police arrested him shortly after that and noticed he had blood on his hands and took him to the police station.”
