Party time for pub
It is a year which has gone down in history as being infamous for its disaster and drama.
But 1987 is being celebrated in Somerset for a different reason this week.
Twenty-five years ago tomorrow (October 19), John and Elaine Foreman and Elaine's brother John Sharman took over at the Ring O'Bells pub in Ashcott, near Street. And a quarter-of-a-century later the trio will celebrate their milestone with a party that harks back to their first days with the first drinks at the party being charged at 1987 prices.
John Foreman explained that when they took over few people expected them to stay very long.

"In the two years before we bought the pub there had been four different owners here," he said.
"So I don't think people really expected us to stay that long, but we liked it, we like the people who come in here and we made Ashcott our home."
The three moved in just a few days after southern Britain had been battered by the worst storm in living memory which left BBC meteorologist Michael Fish red-faced after he claimed there was no hurricane to worry about. Eighteen people were killed.
It was also the year of the Zeebrugge ferry disaster, the Kings Cross Fire, the Enniskillen bombing and the Hungerford shootings.
Margaret Thatcher won her third term as Prime Minister in 1987, Timothy Dalton put in his first turn as James Bond and the songs Never Gonna Give You Up and I Should Be So Lucky made pop stars of Rick Astley and Kylie Minogue. A gallon of petrol cost less than £2 and a three bedroom house in Ashcott could be snapped up for £45,000.
The 1987-price drinks will be served when the 25th anniversary party, complete with brass band, begins at 7.30pm tomorrow night.
