Paralympian Ben Rushgrove opens Blue School’s new pitch
PARALYMPIAN sprinter Ben Rushgrove cut the ribbon at Wells Blue School’s astropitch and gave a talk to the sixth form.
The three times world champion was at the Blue as part of the Aim Higher initiative which helps to give students from non-traditional backgrounds opportunities to access higher education.
Ben, a 100 metre and 200 metre runner in the T36 class, achieved Bronze in the London 2012 Paralympics in the 200 metres and Silver in the Beijing Paralympics in the 100 metres in 2008.
Steve Jackson, head teacher at the Blue said: “This is an amazing opportunity for the students and staff to witness first-hand how Ben has defied the odds to become a world class athlete. It is a great honour for the school that Ben has taken time out of his busy training schedule to visit us.”
