Pakistan spinner Abdur Rehman all set for Somerset CCC move
Somerset are hoping to sign Pakistan spinner Abdur Rehman in time for the resumption of the LV= County Championship season.
Director of cricket Brian Rose hopes the 32-year-old will be on board when the Cidermen host Warwickshire on July 18 at Taunton’s County Ground.
“We have been talking to Abdur Rehman, who is currently playing Test cricket for Pakistan against Sri Lanka, for the last two to three weeks, but we still have to sort out a visa, so we just have to keep our fingers crossed about that,” said Rose. “He is exactly what we want for the six Championship matches at the tail-end of the season, particularly in home games.”
On the field, pace-setters Somerset suffered a comprehensive 54-run defeat to Worcestershire in yesterday’s Friends Life Twenty20 Midlands/Wales/West group clash at Taunton. The setback followed a nine-wicket home loss to fierce rivals Gloucestershire on Friday.

Rose said: “I thought Worcestershire played very well and were clever in the cricket they played. We can have no complaints about that. I am afraid we didn’t come up to the mark.
“We never got into the game. They got off to a good start and we didn’t and again it was the same when we batted – nobody was flowing on that wicket.”
After suffering two home defeats along similar lines, Rose said: “It’s a worry if it is a trend, but we have got two very important games [away to Glamorgan and Worcestershire] from which we can retrieve the situation.
“We have got enormous talent in the side but we haven’t been convincing, so we are under pressure now.”
