Pair spot UFO lights in sky over Cannington
Two women in Cannington are backing claims that the Bridgwater area is a hotspot for UFOs.
After reading last week's report in the Bridgwater Times about unidentified flying objects floating above North Petherton, Doreen Bunch and Alison Howard contacted the newsroom to tell their tale.
Doreen, aged 65, said: "My friend and I were so glad to read the article in the Bridgwater Times about UFOs because the same thing happened to us in April."
Driving along lanes to Cannington from a friend's house in Spaxton on Saturday, April 18, at around 11pm, the pair saw bright lights in formation in the sky.
Doreen, of Cannington, said they stopped the car and got out when they saw around seven orange lights flying through the sky in formation. They at first thought they were helicopters but realised those would never fly so close together.
After a few minutes, the lights were nearly over their heads when they suddenly veered off, but not before turning from a dull orange to a glaring white light.
Doreen said: "It was amazing - I've never seen anything like it before and I've got no idea what it was."
The pair stuck around to see if anything else happened, and to their delight, the same thing happened again minutes later.
Another group of orange lights appeared, glided towards them, turned white then changed direction before disappearing out of sight.
Doreen added: "We tried to take photos on our mobiles but nothing appeared on the images.
"We'd love to see something like this again."
The story which appeared in last week's Bridgwater Times has now appeared on three UFO spotting sites.

“Cmon this is getting ridiculous. I am beginning to get a little tired of all these articles about UFO (aka Chinese lantern) sightings. Surely there is something a little more newsworthy to report on.”

“Speaking from experience and living near Glastonbury where this type of thing happens frequently it¿s obvious. However, light refraction, wind, combustible materials used (i.e. long fused fireworks containing magnesium = bright white light) and other atmospheric anomalies can all play a part in the perceived perception of a UFO, try shining a laser through one when in flight to see what reaction you get. Such hysteria can also be attributed to hallucinogenic drug use, consumption of cider or just plain wishful thinking. A UFO doesn¿t necessarily mean little green men. Anyway, they are far too clever to be picked up by basic human technology”

“So how would you explain this comment?
"Another group of orange lights appeared, glided towards them, turned white then changed direction before disappearing out of sight."
Chinese lanterns don't do that. If anything, they would burn out, or possibly the entire lantern could catch fire, but not change to bright white.”

“I hate to spoil the ladies over active imagination but all they have witness are a few sky lanterns ¿ Google the word and see for yourself ¿ I¿ve done this in the past and it looks great if you send a group up together, if you add some additional wax to the burner they can soar to great heights. Also, even if little green men were flying around in their super duper spaceships why specifically pick Bridgewater ¿ Sorry people of BW, there are just far more interesting places in the world to visit..!”
