Ms Mountstevens said: “I have experienced a real desire from the rural community to engage with the police and I feel that a Rural Crime Forum, which will be at a very strategic level, would facilitate this.
“I understand some of the challenges that farmers, smallholders and rural businesses face and working together we can prevent and reduce rural crime from happening.
“We have some fantastic schemes including Farm and Rural Watches, proving to be very successful in Avon and Somerset, and in the areas where initiatives are working particularly well I want to share this best practice further.”
Mr Bangham said: “Our local policing teams already work closely with their rural communities, farmers and members of Rural and Farm Watch schemes, both of which are proving to be highly successful; but we want to continue to build and strengthen these essential relationships.
“We want to hear directly from our rural communities, your concerns, your priorities and how you feel we can work with you. This will inform our work going forwards. Forum such as this is a good opportunity for us to meet with people and have those discussions.”
The forum will take place in the Lecture Theatre of the showground from 12.30.
