Mr Morris said: “Festival trustees are delighted that 2012 was successful, not only culturally, with yet another brilliant programme by Martin Dimery, but it also managed to keep comfortably off the financial rocks.
“I am aware that the outcome was due to buoyant ticket sales – a pleasurable achievement in itself – but also some disciplined economies in running costs.
“The downside of that was a sharp reduction in paid support, evidenced in Fred Rolfe’s workload and the selflessness of our one part-time administrator, Beverly Jones, who continued to work as a volunteer after her contract expired.
“Over the 12 years of the festival we’ve always tried to enhance its community character. This is seen in several ways, but one is the huge and generous input we have from all our volunteers. In these financially difficult times there wouldn’t be a Frome Festival without its friends and volunteers.”
Looking forward, festival creative director Martin Dimery gave a taste of what is to come.
Mr Dimery said: “We are already planning the Frome Festival 2013. Our theme for next year will celebrate the 21st anniversary of the ECOS monument at Frome Community College.
“Along with the Merlin Theatre we are planning some spectacular events there, as well as a huge variety of performances, exhibitions, workshops and events across the town.”
There are also plans to extend the festival’s Friends’ subscription membership, with exciting new opportunities open to members, which will include year-round events.
Further details are to be announced soon on the festival website,www.fromefestival.co.uk.
Anyone interested in the festival is welcome to attend the meeting, but only members, Friends of the Festival, may vote.
