Olympic sailing hero Andrew Simpson rues title bid ended by injury
ANDREW Simpson admitted he did not think twice about pulling out of the ISAF Sailing World Championships as Iain Percy struggled with injury - but it still was not any easier to take.
Sherborne-based Olympic gold medalist Simpson and Percy were looking good in the defence of their world title, won almost two years ago in Brazil, in the Star in Australia – racing to a 12-point lead after the first four outings.

However disaster struck last week with Percy struggling with a back injury, which according to Simpson had momentarily "paralysed" him, in the first race and being forced to pull out.
With racing set to continue throughout the week they made the decision to withdraw, their Olympic ambitions in London clearly in mind, a situation labelled by Simpson as simply frustrating.
"Iain was in tears and there was no way we were going to do the second race with Iain crying in pain," said Skandia Team GBR sailor Simpson.
"When your mate and the guy you are hoping to go to the Olympics with is in pain, especially with his back, it is very frustrating. And you can't risk making it worse. The key is to be ready for next year."
