Nursery to open doors
On Sunday, August 19, The Mead Nursery at Brokerswood, near Rudge, will be holding an open day from noon to 5pm in aid of the National Gardens Scheme (NGS).
Plants will be the focus of the day and nursery owners Emma and Steve Lewis-Dale will be on hand, as will their staff, to provide expert advice on how to get the best from plants, and how to make sure the garden looks its best from August into the autumn and beyond.
Mrs Lewis-Dale said: "We have opened for the NGS on one Sunday in August for nearly 20 years now. It started as a rather low-key event and has grown into what we think is, certainly for nurseries, the unique and popular event it is today.
"We decided that the best way to prove to customers that the garden doesn't stop flowering towards the end of July, as many people think, was to open for the NGS showing what a broad range of flowering plants you can have in August and beyond.

"We then thought it would be more fun to also have some select guest stalls to add to the day and we now have a waiting list of stallholders wanting to come."
Stands at the open day include Traidcraft with Fairtrade gifts and food; Snape Stakes to keep plants upright; the Neem Tree Trust with antiques and collectibles; and RK Carvings with chain-saw sculptures.
Entry costs £3.50, which includes refreshments and a selection of homemade cakes.
