Nude models relieved after grant to replace hall's leaking roof
Nude models posing for art classes at a village hall near Crewkerne need no longer fear the cold after a council grant was awarded.
South Somerset District Council agreed to give £6,000 towards replacing the leaking roof at Clapton and Wayford village hall, providing new doors and upgrading the foyer.
Supporters of the application revealed the foyer is often draughty in the winter months and heat struggles to stay in the building.
The resultant chilly conditions are not good for the naked male and female models sometimes painted by the art classes.

Reg Musset from the village hall committee said: “The village hall was built in 1961 and over the years it has fallen into disrepair.
“It is the only local amenity for Clapton and Wayford and serves many other areas such as Hewish, Oakhill and Crewkerne. It has got to the point that there is nothing else we can do with regards to repairing the roof and it needs replacing. Without this hall the community will be much the poorer.
“The current state of disrepair is holding back the future of the hall and costing us some bookings. It is stopping the hall being hired out for community occasions. We need to have this work done.”
In addition to art classes, the hall is host to a film club, yoga classes, a “knit and natter” group and short mat bowls. It also hosts regular social and fundraising activities.
The total cost of the works is £13,800. The parish council has contributed £500 and the village hall committee has raised £1,300 towards the project – and is currently awaiting a decision from the Awards For All Lottery grant scheme on an application for £6,000. A successful Lottery grant on top of the district council grant would provide exactly the amount needed for the project.
District councillors agreed to award £6,000 at a meeting last Wednesday. Somerset county councillor for Crewkerne John Dyke said: “Clapton without the village hall is nothing.”
