North Petherton Carnival 2012: Another win for Gremlins Carnival Club
The muskets and tricorn hats of 18th century revolution won Bridgwater’s Gremlins Carnival Club their third straight victory at a rainy North Petherton Carnival on Saturday night.
They beat a startling entry from Masqueraders into second place, despite animatronic polar bears baring their teeth on a fittingly chilly looking Journey of the Polar Bear Queen cart.

The procession was poignantly led off by fire fighters thanking the community for their support after last year’s M5 tragedy on Bridgwater Carnival night.
The 2011 North Petherton carnival was cancelled the following day, but returned with a spectacular of sight and sound.

Special applause was reserved from the crowds for those without the luxury of a cart to propel them, or hundreds of bulbs to warm them – the pedestrian entries included two entries from sisters Lotty and Izzy Wheeler, from Gurney Slade, who were among the youngest to take to the road in the spirit of carnival.
Once again the standard of the tableau entries was astounding, with Gemini’s Starlight Express winning the judge’s vote ahead of Huckyduck’s elephant-filled Hannibal entry, and a chilling Sweeney Todd-themed piece, entitled Mrs Lovett’s Meat Pies, from Wills CC.
“It’s great to have North Petherton back this year, after what happened last year, which was so awful,” said Pete Nixon, from Bridgwater.
