New nurses help ease pressure on SCBU
THE big focus of the Flying Colours Appeal is raising £500,000 for a new special care baby unit.
But fundraisers are not the only ones working hard – as Lorraine Slack, senior sister at the unit, writes in her SCBU diary:
She said: "We have had a particularly busy time recently with a number of babies who were not well.
"June was much quieter, which was nice for the parents as it meant they had a little more room.

"But we have four new members of staff who have been with us a few months now and have settled in well.
"We have also just finished recruiting and interviewing for more staff and have just employed two new nurses.
"It has been good to see the sun recently but the unit has been extremely hot and we have had to have fans in constant use to help make mums and staff more comfortable.
"Once we move into the new unit it will be much easier to control the temperature so we are all really looking forward to that.
"The fundraisers have been popping in a lot recently to update us so staff can keep up-to-date with what's happening, even if they can't always attend the fundraising events themselves.
"We are extremely impressed with how the public raise so much for the SCBU and how much time and effort goes into the activities."
The next event the staff and fundraisers are supporting will see models striking their best pose for the appeal.
The Rocking the Catwalk charity event will run from 6.30pm to 10pm at North Cadbury Court on Thursday, September 26.
