Motion Picture Capital invited Visit Somerset to a meeting about its new film Glastonbury Isle of Light.

On Monday, March 4 the team from Visit Somerset met Motion Picture Capital's, CEO, Leon Clarence in London, together with executive producer Nuala Barton (mother of actress Mischa Barton). The PR team from Visit England were also invited to attend the meeting.

The film will tell the story of Joseph of Arimathea's flight from Jerusalem, his landing in Britain, stewardship of the Holy Grail, his alliance with the rebel leader Caractacus and their leadership of a Celtic resistance against Roman imperial domination.

Daniel McNicoll, writer and producer on the project, said: "With Visit Somerset now meeting and partnering with the Isle of Light executive producers, I think this opens a few more doors and allows us to really stake this project in the rich and fertile soil of Glastonbury."

John Turner, vice chairman of the Somerset Tourism Association and Visit Somerset said: "We are delighted to have been asked to this meeting, demonstrating how much commitment the producers are giving to Somerset and we will be extremely excited to be able to report back on all the developments and timescales.

"We feel that not only Somerset but the whole of the UK can benefit from this project and are therefore now working very closely with our colleagues from Visit England. The plan is to develop a wide ranging and strategic marketing plan that can support the project and the county."

The film is the brainchild of Galatia Films, based on the East Coast of the United States. Mr McNicoll, executive director of Galatia Films, has said that Motion Picture Capital and Galatia Films both believe the timing is very good for this feature film based on the Grail Legend, myths and history that surround Joseph of Arimathea and Glastonbury. Galatia Films and Motion Picture Capital Limited have formed a partnership to take the project forward.

Nuala Barton's team includes WETA/Richard Taylor. Robin Gurland casting director of the latest Star Wars trilogy is also involved along with producer Ned Dowd whose films include King Arthur with Keira Knightly, and Last of the Mohicans. And the special effects team behind Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit, WETA, will take Somerset back 2000 years.

John Rhys Davies of Indiana Jones and Lord of The Rings fame has leant his support to the project. The actor known for his roles as Gimli in Lord of the Rings and Sallah in Indiana Jonestrilogy visited Glastonbury Abbey in November to discuss plans for the film.
