SIX new fire engines worth nearly £2.4 million will soon be available to Avon Fire & Rescue Service.

The appliances – which will replace existing vehicles – are set to be used for emergency call outs after being tested. Of the six new vehicles, two are turntable ladders which will be based at Weston-super-Mare and Bath. The state-of-the-art vehicles are the first of their kind in the UK.

They cost just over £500,000 each and feature a 27m-long ladder.

The other four new vehicles are combined rescue pumps, which cost just under £340,000 each and will be based at Bath, Temple, Avonmouth and Weston fire stations.
