After two months of disruption due to Christmas parties and then snow and ice, Old Down Jazz will return to it's long established pattern of the first Friday in every month for February's session of Jazz in the New Orleans Tradition.

For this first session of 2010, the New Delta Jazz Band are welcoming two special guest musicians.

Trumpet player Derek Winters, the band's honorary member, makes the trip up from Penzance to lead the band once again.

Now a familiar and popular visitor to The Old Down Inn, Derek travels regularly to Denmark and Sweden to play with the internationally acclaimed New Orleans Delight as well as running his own band, Winter Sunshine in England.

Derek is one of the country's finest exponents of the art of New Orleans trumpet playing.

He has a fiery attack, is an inspirational leader, and a highly knowledgeable and insatiable enthusiast for the music.

Another old friend Dion Cochrane is one of the country's finest drummers in the New Orleans style, and he is travelling down from Ledbury in Herefordshire to keep the band's rhythm section in order and on the right New Orleans lines.

Dion understands the essential elements of New Orleans-style drumming and his sound reflects those of several well-known drummers such as Sammy Penn and Joe Watkins.

He is always in demand by bands throughout this country and abroad.

With the rest of the regular musicians available, the New Delta Jazz Band will start their 2010 season of Old Down Jazz tomorrow at The Old Down Inn at Emborough, near Chilcompton, at 8.30pm.
