An unofficial law enforcer was on the scene when new High Sheriff of Somerset Maureen Whitmore, judges, magistrates, previous High Sheriffs and other VIPs arrived at Wells Cathedral for the annual Legal Service yesterday.

Despite holding a megaphone, Batdad, alias “Adam”, stood as a silent sentinel at the northern corner of the Somerset cathedral’s magnificent West Front.
