New Bridgwater pool
I SEE the news regarding a replacement pool for the town and the pledge of Sedgemoor district councillors "to set up a task and finish group to... look at Chilton Pool."
Bridgwater residents are to be warned of their council's previous promises.
Indeed councillor Ann Bown, the same councillor who voted for the Splash closure and who I assume will be a high-profile figure at the Chilton Pool's Task and Finish Group, set up a similar group in November 2008 - Skatepark Task and Finish Group.
Residents, youths and other councillors worked tirelessly since then to ensure the group provides what it promised.
We, Bridgwater Skatepark Campaign, made it clear we would only support the building of the two mini skateparks (which have encroached onto land from green areas of our town) only if they were part of the bigger picture; a full-size skatepark that would have adequate provision and be in an appropriate NON - residential area.
How strange, just as the two mini-skateparks have been finished and despite councillor Ann Bown's proclamations to our group in December 2009, "we are waiting for developers, that is why we put the two smaller ones in, so that it would enable young people to be able to use these facilities while we are waiting", that at present councillor Bown has now cancelled any further meetings of the Skatepark Task and Finish Group.
