Frome seconds have started the season with a nail-biting victory over Calne B, followed by a comprehensive success against Devizes' sixth team.

Trailing by four goals after the first quarter against Calne, Frome fought back strongly after making changes in centre court and were four ahead at half- time.

A shaky start to the third quarter saw Calne edge ahead but it was soon back level at 26-26 before fresh legs helped Frome secure a 37-35 triumph, with player of the match Janie and Emily scoring vital late goals.

Frome only led by five goals after the first quarter against Devizes before taking control as Carly Dean and Laura Sheen worked hard to prevent their opponents notching a single point in the second period.

Frome Hearts 36 Taunton Priory 43

Coming into the match on the back of their first victory of the season, Frome Hearts were unable to hold onto a half-time lead against Taunton Priory.

Hearts started well, getting the ball up the court to shooters Hannah and Laura. Goals flew in at both ends but good defence from Jess and Kathryn ensured Frome were 20-18 up after the first quarter.

The match became tighter and Priory upped their game defensively but Frome still led 28-26 at half-time.

Frome made some defensive changes but interceptions from Jenny, Meg, Lisa and Nikki were not enough to prevent Priory opening up a four-goal lead.

Frome kept themselves in contention but could not narrow the gap and Priory edged further ahead to secure the win.

Hannah Dredge picked up both player of the match awards for Frome, who travel to Barons on Saturday.
