Museum does its best to recreate the Glastonbury magic
A Somerset museum has joined forces with seven top photographers, a youth centre and a local radio station to mount an exhibition about the festival to beat all festivals.
Spirit of Glastonbury opened at the Radstock Museum last Friday and will run until November 30, giving people a chance to relive great moments in Glastonbury Festival’s 40-year history.

Creating something of the atmosphere of an event that attracts tens of thousands of music fans, covers several acres of land and stages legendary performances is a near-impossible task.
But the museum has done its best, by inviting the Glastonbury Seven, photographers Brian Walker, Ian Sumner, Anna Barclay, Ann Cook, Steve Roberts, Jason Bryant and Matt Cardy, who have covered the exhibition at different stages in its history, to exhibit the cream of their work.

Also on show are a Glastonbury Tent, created by young people at Peasedown St John Youth Centre. They have really entered into the spirit of the event by designing banners and backdrops for their exhibit – and have collected hippy clothes for people to try on. Face painting and a “design your Glastonbury outfit” competition have also been organised.
Dom Chambers, who manages Somer Valley FM, has been involved in the festival for many years, working as a photographer and stage manager.
He has contributed posters and some of the journals he has kept of the event.
The Radstock Museum exhibition will be open Tuesdays to Fridays and Sundays from 2pm to 5pm, and on Saturdays from 11am to 5pm, until November 30. For more information see the museum website, www.radstockmuseum.co.uk.
