There were lengthy delays last night as a series of accidents caused chaos for people returning home after the bank holiday.

Traffic slowed to a crawl following an accident on the M5's northbound section between junctions 22 (Burnham-on-Sea) and 21 (Weston-super-Mare).

There were also accidents at junction 17 (Cribbs Causeway) and junction 25 (Taunton), with some motorists reporting the journey through Somerset had taken them several hours.
