Icy water freezing as it streamed across a road may have played a part in a late-night crash in Somerset in which a motorist was seriously injured.

His Blue Toyota Yaris collided with a tree as it travelled south on the A371 near the Royal Bath and West Showground at around 11.50pm on Friday.

Although seriously injured, the driver then walked one third of a mile further south along the A371 before being found by a passing motorist.

Anyone who witnessed the collision, or suffered any loss of control on ice on Friday night, is asked to contact police on 101.
