A sponsored toddle walk took place last Tuesday around the Cheddar reservoir to raise money for Hannah More Park.

The event was organised by mothers and residents who are part of Children In Cheddar, a group who want to see changes made to the Cheddar park.

Thirty-five adults and 55 children took part and raised an estimated £920. The children received chocolate medals donated by Cheddar Chocolate Factory and a cake donated by Highnams Dairy as a reward for their efforts.

Sarah Millard, a mother-of-two and member of CIC, said: "The event was a great success despite the weather towards the end of the toddle walk. All the kids had a brilliant time, everyone enjoyed it and we raised a lot of money."

The organisation Children In Cheddar, part of Funky Ducklings Toddler Group, aim to improve the children's play area in Hannah More Park by raising money to buy new equipment for children.

The park is due to get a facelift as Fairlands School pupils recently received £22,000 from Cheddar Parish Council to purchase equipment for children aged between eight and 13.

Mrs Millard said: "The money for Fairlands pupils will only benefit a select age group. We want all age groups within the Cheddar Valley region to be able to play in fun and imaginative play-areas. The equipment that is currently there isn't sufficient for the young families and visitors that use it."

CIC will be running a stall at the Cheddar State Park's grand opening on September 11. If you are interested in donating sale items, prizes, cash or services, email cheddar park@hotmail.co.uk.
