'Wedding will bring some happiness to our family after mother's death'
IT HAS emerged that a Mark woman who was killed by a train at Highbridge died days before her daughter's wedding.
Mother-of-two Lynette Rawles, 61, was killed instantly by a train after allegedly walking on to the tracks at the station on Friday morning, July 16.
The death came only eight days before her 30-year-old daughter Hannah's wedding in Mark.
Mrs Rawles had become depressed in recent years and became a patient at Rydon House in Taunton, an adult mental health unit.
Husband Alan said he and their children were deeply shocked.
The 63-year-old sales manager also said the decision to carry on with the wedding came after much discussion to bring some happiness to the family.
Mrs Rawles, of Church Street, lived in Mark all her life, attended the primary school and was a secretary at Mark College for 21 years, before retiring three years ago.
She enjoyed many activities including swimming, walking and flower arranging.
Mrs Rawles was pronounced dead at the scene. British Transport Police confirmed the incident was not being treated as suspicious.
The train came to a halt shortly after the collision.
Passengers were moved to the entrance as police and paramedics were first to arrive at about 11am.
The line was handed back to Network Rail authority by just after noon.
Crosscountry Trains would not comment on how the train driver was feeling, but said there is a process for looking after staff in this situation.
